Ronald Hopkins

OBITUARY Ronald Stewart Hopkins was born July 21, 1930 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Province, Canada, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Haworth) Hopkins. He graduated from high school in Saskatoon. Ron was united in marriage to Donna Porter on March 29, 1986 in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada. Together they lived in Perry Sound Ontario, Canada. Ron worked construction most of his life. He helped build dams and bridges throughout Canada. He also owned a construction company and built and remodeled homes in Ontario for 13 years. After retiring at the age of 56, Ron and Donna enjoyed their time together traveling and building a home on Georgian Bay. In 1999 Ron and Donna moved to Alexandria and he was able to keep dual citizenship in the United States and Canada. Ron had a kind and gentle nature which children seemed to gravitate towards. This maybe because of his Santa like resemblance. He liked to spend time outdoors in his garden raising flowers and vegetables. Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman. He took many hunting and fishing trips with Floyd Cummings over the years. Ron was a very Christian man who thought before he spoke and enjoyed living his life with God by his side. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Ronald S. Hopkins died on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at his home at the age of 83 years old. He is survived by his wife Donna Hopkins of Alexandria; step-children Charles (Rebecca) Porter of Alexandria; Sandra (Randy) Divine of Vero Beach, FL and Sue Ellen Daniels of Logan, UT; grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers John (Joy) Hopkins of Kelona British Columbia and Chuck (Beryl) Hopkins of Kelona, British Columbia; sisters Shirley (Don) Kenett of Kelona, British Columbia, and Audrey Lewis of Kelona British Columbia; many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the New Life Christian Church in Alexandria with Pastor John Taplin officiating. Urn bearers were Jeff Daniels and Jacob Porter. All of Ron?s grandchildren and great grandchildren were honorary urn bearers. The Men?s Quartet sang as well as Fred Walter. Missy Hansen played the piano. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery on a later date. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria www.andersonfuneral.net
