Phyllis Ramsdell

Phyllis Arvilla Ramsdell was born on April 17, 1925, in Brandon Township, the daughter of Arthur and Alice (Brueske) Timm. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Garfield. She was one of a few continuous living members of St. John?s. She grew up on a farm near Garfield and attended St John?s Parochial school through the 8th grade. In her later teens Phyllis moved into Alexandria and lived with family, working for North American Creamery. On October 21, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage to Stanley Ramsdell. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Brandon area where they raised their three children. In the late 1960?s they sold their farm and moved to Big Chippewa Lake. They loved the peace and serenity of living at the lake and watching all the wild life. The couple also enjoyed working in the garden where Phyllis would direct Stanley as to where things should be planted. Phyllis also enjoyed her time working for Stella?s Fashionette and later Trumm Drug from where she retired after many years of service. Some of her favorite pastimes were baking and mowing lawn. She also enjoyed singing at weddings and at church, doing so since she was a young child. The couple loved traveling and was able to see most of the United States. Her most treasured vacation was when they traveled to Europe with her mother, all her siblings and their spouses. In 2002, Stanley died and Phyllis continued to live at the lake until 2009 when she moved to Windmill Ponds. In August of 2013 she moved to Diamond Willow. Phyllis died on Monday, February 17, 2014. She is survived by her three children: Sheryl (Larry) Mandigo, Brandon, MN, Jody (Steven) Hanson, Brandon, MN, Brain Ramsdell, Alexandria; grandchildren: Heather Mandigo, Seattle, WA, Cody Mandigo, Fargo, ND, Sean Hanson, Garfield, Stephanie (John) Holt, Somerset, WI, Shaina (Zander) Holtberg, Alexandria, Tanner Ramsdell, Alexandria, brothers: Everald Timm, Garfield, Dale (Phyllis) Timm, Savage, Gerald (Susan) Timm, Minneapolis; sisters: Janice (Ken) Esala, Garfield, Kathy (Wayne) Johnson, Alexandria, sister-in-law Marlys Timm, Wadena and special life-long friend Delores Betterman, Alexandria. Her husband, Stanley, parents and two brothers, Laurel and Myrlen, preceded her in death. Funeral services were held on Friday, February 21, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Garfield with burial at St. John?s Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
