LeRoy Johnson

Edgar LeRoy Johnson was born on October 25, 1928, in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota the son of Edgar and Bertha (Mensinger) Johnson. As a young boy the family moved to Hoffman and later to Garfield where he helped on the family farm. He attended country school through the 8th grade. As a young man he worked for the railroad. He was drafted in the United States Army where he honorably served his country during the Korean War. He was Honorably Discharged at the rank of Corporal in June of 1953. LeRoy was united in marriage to Dorothy Alvina Rose Raedeke on June 1, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie, MN. The couple farmed in Garfield and LeRoy continued to work in the Twin Cities at Ford Motor Company until he moved to their farm in Garfield. He worked in Alexandria at several jobs over the years and also farmed until he retired from 3M. LeRoy was a farmer at heart and loved farming. Farm life taught the family teamwork. Dorothy died on July 23, 1998. On April 14, 2000, LeRoy married Margaret Gaebel. The couple lived in Alexandria, MN. LeRoy died on Sunday, August 23, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; LeRoy and Dorothy had four children: Diane (Sheldon) Rosburg of Mora, MN, Clark (Pam) of Elk River, MN, Kay (Michael) Cather of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Grant (Wendy) of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Sarah (Larry), Samantha, Seth, William, Alissa, Jonathon, Courtney; great granddaughter, Ella; brother: Robert (Eleanor); sisters: Charlotte Ludwig, Joyce Martin; step children: Jim (Cheryl), David (Dori), Karen Gaebel, Sheryl (Dalen) Kittelson, step grandchildren: Shawn, Kelly, Josha, Aaron, Nikki, Kayla, Tyler, Megan, Katelyn, Lucas, Jordon, Logan, Mason; step great granddaughter, Audry; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents: Edgar and Bertha. Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 27, 2015, 2:00 PM at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Burial will be at Kinkead/Sunset Cemetery. Military honors were by American Legion Post 87, VFW Post 936, VVA Post 235. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home. www.andersonfuneral.net
