Leanne Namur, age 95, of Alexandria, died Monday, February 1, 2016. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alexandria. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, IA. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the church. OBITUARY LEANNE NAMUR Leanne Phelps Namur, 95, of Alexandria, Minnesota passed away on February 1, 2016. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the United Church of Christ at 11 AM, Saturday, February 6, 2016. She will be laid to rest with her husband, sister, parents, grandparents, great grandparents and great-great grandparents in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer, Iowa. Leanne was born in Spencer, Iowa on December 14, 1920 to Leland Wheeler Phelps and Blanch Titus Phelps. She graduated from Spencer High School in 1938 and attended Carleton College and the University of Colorado at Boulder before obtaining her Registered Nursing degree at Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She entered the Army Nursing Corps in 1944, was a commissioned Lieutenant and served in England and France during WWII. She married Captain Howard Namur, then in the Army Air Corps, in Bescancon, France in 1945. Leanne and Hop Namur retired in Alexandria in 1970 after Hop's retirement from military service. Leanne was a 75 year member of PEO and a past president, a Daughter of the American Revolution and a 45 year member of the United Church of Christ. She was an avid reader and loved playing bridge with her close friends. She will be remembered as a charming, witty, generous, devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend. Leanne is survived by her children, Linda Namur of Alexandria, Ann Namur Clayton and husband, Bill, of Alexandria, and Howard “Flip” Namur and wife, Trudy, of Plymouth, MN; her grandchildren, Dr. Kathryn Clayton of Portland, OR, Christopher (Dylan) Clayton of Brunswick, ME, Elle Namur of Plymouth, and Amy Namur of Minneapolis; her great grandchildren, Benjamin Clayton of Brunswick, Ruby Barrett of Portland and Perri Clayton of Brunswick. In lieu of flowers contributions to the PEO Educational Fund, the First Congregational United Church of Christ, or the Knute Nelson Hospice would be appreciated.
