Irene Nylen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Irene Genevieve Nylen was born on March 26, 1922, the daughter of Dorsey and Mathilda (Edman) Blehr. She graduated from Central High School in Alexandria and then attended Teachers College for two years at Moorhead State. She met her future husband Wallace Nylen at her parents? barn dances, Blehr?s Barn. She married Wallace on July 20, 1946 at Wennersborg Parsonage in Hoffman, MN. While living in Minneapolis they were blessed with two children, John and Yvonne. Irene and her family moved to Princeton, Alexandria, and then back to Minneapolis. Irene was a homemaker, and taking care of her family was her first priority. She was a kind, caring, and loving woman, who was always hospitable and a great cook. She liked to play cards and board games with her family and friends. Her main hobby was needlepoint. Irene?s grandchildren were her main focus after the death of her husband. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Irene G. Nylen died on Friday, September 12, 2008 at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN at the age of 86. She is survived by her son John and Mary Nylen of Minneapolis, MN; daughter Yvonne and Earle Martinson of Nome, Alaska; grandchildren Alexa and Tony Greene of Fairbanks, Alaska; Adam and Tiffany Martinson of Nome, Alaska; great grandchildren Ramsey Greene of Fairbanks, Alaska; Ellie and Joseph Martinson both of Nome, Alaska; sister Muriel Murray of Hoffman, MN; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wallace Nylen; brother William Blehr; sisters Pearl Hogan and Vivian Lade. A funeral service was held on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Solem Lutheran Church near Kensington, MN with the Reverend Elaine Leone officiating. Marlys Jensen played the organ and Annie Rupert was the soloist. Interment was in Wennersborg Cemetery of rural Kensington, MN. Casket Bearers were Scott Blehr, Todd Blehr, Greg Rupert, Brad Larson, Julie Patnode, and Brock Bukkila. Honorary Casket Bearers were Adam Martinson and Alexa Greene.
