Dale Undem Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dale Ward Undem was born on July 24, 1927 in Walnut, IA to Abner and Bertha (Drake) Undem. He graduated from high school in Walnut, IA and joined the Navy at the age of 16. He was honorably discharged after two years of service and attended University of Iowa where he graduated from medical school. Dale then attended University of Kentucky where he specialized in Radiology. Dale married JoAnn Buzzetti on June 19, 1953 in Williams, IA. The couple moved to St. Cloud, MN in 1958 where he started working as a Radiologist. In 1963, they moved to Alexandria where he worked as a Radiologist and retired in 1998. Dale enjoyed being a pilot, scuba diving, sailing, kayaking, skiing, hunting, fishing, photography, arts, theatrical plays, chopping wood (although he was not the best at felling trees), and extensive travel in the U.S. and abroad. Dale died on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at his home at the age of 81. He is survived by his children, Jan (Mark) Wortham of Melrose, FL, John (Linda) Undem of Grand Rapids, MN, Susan Gorham of Melrose, FL, Allyn (Chris) Mattes of Denver, CO, Lori (Ken) Feeken of Tampa, FL and Angie (Scott) Kennedy of Denver, CO; seventeen grandchildren; significant other of 25 years, Gail Cloutier of Alexandria; step-son, Chad Cloutier of Alexandria; former wife, JoAnn Undem; and his best friend Dan Russell. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cynthia in 1957, and his parents. A memorial service was held on Monday, November 24, 2008 at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Scott Muehlberg officiating. Honorary urn bearers were Chad Cloutier, Michael Undem, Christopher Undem, Chris Mattes, Kenny Feeken, Mark Wortham, Scott Kennedy, and Dan Russell. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria.
