Carin Dokken Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Carin Margurite Marie Geisen was born in Luxembourg, Europe, in the town of Diekirch, January 11, 1925, the daughter of Jean-Pierre and Anna (Zuchelt) Geisen. She attended St Joseph Academy for girls for 8 years until the beginning of World War II. While being an interpreter for the U.S. Army, she met her husband Arnell Dokken. They were married on December 9,1947 in Starnberg, Germany, where they were stationed. They came to the United States in November of 1947, where after having homes in Starbuck and Hancock, MN, settled in Alexandria, MN in 1962. Carin was employed by Independent School District 206 for 19 years. A member of First Lutheran Church, she was on the Church Council and served as Christian Education Secretary for 15 years. Carin enjoyed spending time crocheting, reading and playing cards. Patriotism was a very important part of her life. She served Luxembourg as a patriot during WWII and became a fervent patriot of the Unites States after moving here and becoming a naturalized citizen. As much as any soldier Carin knew the price of freedom; she valued it greatly. On Friday August 28, 2009 Carin died at the age of eighty-four years. Her husband, Arnell Dokken, preceded her in death. Carin is survived by her children, Betty (Dale) Tobolt, of Alexandria, Jackie (Michael) Dokken of Blue Springs, MO, Bob (Bev) Dokken of Alexandria, and Jean (Jerry) Fashant of Eden Prairie; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A funeral service was held Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Alexandria. Reverend John Peshek officiated. Myron Larson and Randy Morken provided music. Interment followed in the East Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Langhei Township near Starbuck, MN. Casket bearers included Kevin Howie, Mike Ennis, John Schmidt, Steve Loverien, Dave Harris and David Christenson. Arrangements were with the Anderson Funeral Home.
