Ruth Hass Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ruth Hass, 86, died March 21, 2009 at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria after a battle with pneumonia. Ruth Marie Ernestine Wussow was born on September 11, 1922 on the family farm in Leaf Valley Township, MN. She was the first child of six, born to Henry and Sophia (Woessner) Wussow. She was baptized on October 8, 1922 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley by Pastor Kleweno. On July 5, 1936 she was confirmed at Ebenezer Lutheran Church by Pastor H.L. Sprengler. She attended country school at District 23, Ida Township, MN. Ruth was united in marriage to Loren Hass at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley, October 22, 1944 by Pastor H.L. Sprengler. They had three daughters; and one infant son who died at childbirth. She and Loren farmed in Leaf Valley for five years and then moved to Garfield. After living in their home fifty-six years, Ruth moved to assisted living in Alexandria for the last two years. After Ruth?s daughters were in school, she got a job candling eggs in Garfield. She later started work at Bellanca Aircraft in Alexandria. In 1963, she started working at Herbergers retiring in 1993 after thirty years of service. Ruth enjoyed baking and was especially known for tasty homemade buns, pecan tassies, chocolate chip cookies and chicken noodle soup. Ruth was especially talented at sewing, in particular clothes for her daughters. She enjoyed going once a month to a neighborhood sewing club. Quilting provided countless hours of enjoyment for her. Family and friends alike were given these wonderful gifts. She especially enjoyed getting together with the ladies at church and making quilts for missions. Ruth had a special ability for crocheting. She made afghans for all her kids and grandchildren including making baby afghans for the great-grand children. Another favorite leisure was playing piano, violin and guitar. Gardening, canning and flowers were all favorites in her pastime. The family has many fond memories spending their summers at the lake cabin on Lake Miltona. When Loren and Ruth moved to Garfield, they became members of St. John?s Lutheran Church. Ruth was a member of St. John?s ladies aid and circle. She was also a member of LWML. For many years, she was a member of the Garfield Fireman?s auxiliary; she helped cleaned many pounds of smelt! Ruth was a leader in the Chippewa Farms 4-H club that her girls belonged to. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Karen (Larry) Noetzelman of Alexandria, daughter, Patricia (Roger) Dittberner of Leaf Valley, son-in-law, Lynn (Sheila) Schulz of Morris, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, sister, Naomi (Sam) Gargaro, brothers, Norman Wussow, Kenneth (LaVern) Wussow, sister-in-law, Donna Wussow, sister-in-law, Dorothy Schulz, brother-in-law, Alfred Kloehn, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Loren Hass(1994), daughter Diane Schulz(2000) and infant son, Edward Hass(1952). A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 28, 2009 at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Garfield, MN. Rev. Shawn Etheridge will officiate. Kristi Wussow and Steve Froemming will provide music. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in Leaf Valley. Casket bearers include Brian Noetzelman, Scott Schulz, Trevor Dittberner, Brad Noetzelman, Scott Persoon, Kevin Karger, Paul Chermak and Derek Schauls. Honorary casket bearers include all of Ruth?s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home.
